Designed by Selgascano and commissioned by Second
Home (and operated by Second Home), this
East London bookshop design was inspired by the
nearly infinite library in Jean Luis Borges’s 1940s tale
‘The Library of Babel’.
A large, single mirror in the back and a reflective
stretched plastic ceiling help create this illusion.
The bookshop also features a Risograph printshop
in the basement with moveable shelves and floor
hatches to allow the space to transform for speaking
events or parties.
The fit out was done for a very low cost and with simple
materials, but to extraordinary effect.
