The Office as a Project is a research-led workplace design studio, based in Toronto. From small business space planning, corporate test-fits to organizational change and beyond, we design for workers.

COMMISSIONED RESEARCH
COMPLETED Q2 2019
Research ◦ Presentation of Findings

We were commissioned by a multinational international contract furniture maker to investigate and develop an understanding of so-called ‘work geometries’.

We were posed theoretical problem statements to investigate, based on assumptions they had developed (or were developing) relating to the geometries required for different types of modern work activities. These open ended, and usually unprecedented, questions—often relating to the ways body positioning (and thus furniture) can enable ‘collaboration’—were then developed by us and given a framework that will eventually catalyse new product lines for the client.

These research reports consisted of an analysis of existing (cross-disciplinary) literature and anthropometric guides. These were then summarised to identify key ‘levers’ (from the perspective of the contract furniture designer), and sometimes resulted in original diagrams to better explain the findings.
